Youth fitness receives lift for Fit Factor Published Nov. 14, 2006 By Senior Airman Tim Bazar 314th Airlift Wing Strategic Information Flight LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, Ark. -- Fitness center officials donated eight pieces of youth weight resistance equipment to the youth center recently to help promote healthy lifestyles and promote fitness among the members there. The equipment, valued between $1,200-1,500 a piece, will allow space for new equipment in the family room at the fitness center. "The older children that want to begin lifting weights for sports or to get in shape had to use the equipment in the family room," said Don Skeel, fitness center director, "and since the youth center hosts children a little older, we decided to donate the equipment to the center so kids could work out with their friends." "The fitness equipment will help us enhance our Fit Factor program that started this October," said Lee Groce, youth director. "We want to plant a seed in kids that will hopefully grow to recognize the importance of living a healthy lifestyle not just at the youth center or gym, but at home too." In line with the Fit Factor program, the youth center plans to begin new, supervised training classes for youth that will both help them begin a healthy change and open up some time for parents "on the go," said Mr. Groce. "This is a great service the youth center will provide children as it introduces them to programs that will get them interested in living a better, healthier life," said Mr. Groce.
