Fit to fight: Airmen enhance workout environment Published Nov. 19, 2018 By Airman 1st Class Kristine M. Gruwell 19th Airlift Wing Public Affairs LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, Ark. -- The Little Rock Air Force Base Fitness and Sports Center staff have been transforming their facility to maximize amenities and enhance the environment for Airmen and their families at Little Rock AFB, Arkansas. Starting in June 2018, one of the racquetball courts began a five-month conversion into a functional workout room where fitness center patrons can use free weights, ropes, squatting racks and other workout equipment to provide more variety to their exercise routines. "A lot of what we decided to do with the functional fitness room had to do with customer requests," said U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Andrew Conger, 19th Force Support Squadron fitness specialist. "I asked people who work out here a lot and discovered what would appease most people in enhancing the workout environment." Little Rock Air Force Base Fitness and Sports Center customers are able to utilize the functional fitness room in case the aerobics room or other open spaces are being utilized for a class or a physical training session. Free-weights, ropes, squat racks and other equipment are available for patrons to do a variety of workouts in the room. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Kristine M. Fitness center staff thought of transforming the space for individuals who have a limited amount of time to work out when a class is taking place in the aerobics room. Being able to utilize the space at the fitness center in regard to customer requests ensures Team Little Rock members are taken care of and fit-to-fight at home and abroad. “Our goal is to take care of Airmen and their families by creating a workout environment that suites our customers,” Conger said. “Changing up our space so they can work out without being interrupted or having to come back later ensures our customers don’t waste their time and can keep to their routine while being efficient.”
