Little Rock AFB tax assistance Published Jan. 15, 2015 By 19th Airlift Wing Judge Advocate Office LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, Ark. -- Tax season is upon us! The 19th Airlift Wing's Legal Office Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program provides electronic filing services free of charge. Although the tax center does not handle complicated returns, most 1040, 1040a and 1040EZ forms with attachments can be filed at the base tax center. Due to reduced resources, services this year are limited to active-duty military, retired military and military dependents whose income is less than or equal to $51,000, as reflected in the tax payer's W-2(s) and 1099 series documents. For dual income families, the combined income of both spouses must be below $51,000 to qualify for services. Alternative free options do exist for individuals who do not qualify for services at the tax center and are detailed in the paragraph below. The tax center will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., starting Feb. 2 through April 15, in building 1250. Please contact the tax center at (501) 987-7886 starting Jan. 31 for an appointment or to arrange for drop-off service. Remember to bring all your essential tax documentation when visiting the tax center. This includes all W-2s, 1099s, or other documentation of income, information for deductions/credits and your last tax return. Customers who wish to receive a possible refund by direct deposit need to bring their bank account information (i.e. a voided check). Also, be sure to bring your Social Security cards and military identification. In addition to the one-on-one appointment and drop-off service, for 2015, the tax center will be providing customers the opportunity to file their own taxes at a self-service kiosk. For individuals that do not qualify to receive services at the Little Rock AFB Tax Center, a variety of other options is available. Military OneSource provides free access for all military members and dependents to file their own taxes online using H&R Block Basic, with a tax counselor available to answer questions. Local VITA and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) centers are available for individuals who qualify based upon income or age. Visit http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/IRS-Free-Tax-Return-Preparation-Programs to find available locations. Additionally, IRS "freefile" provides free filing options, which are available to everyone allowing electronic filing of tax returns at http://www.irs.gov/uac/Free-File:-Do-Your-Federal-Taxes-for-Free. If you have any questions, please contact the tax center at (501) 987-7886.
