Team Little Rock hosted a staff sergeant release party to recognize 95 Herk Nation Airmen selected for promotion to the rank of E5 at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas, Aug. 18, 2023.

Senior airmen from the 19th Airlift Wing and 314th Airlift Wing were among the 9,000 personnel selected out of 51,717 eligible for the 23E5 promotion cycle. The 17.4 percent selection rate for 2023 marks the lowest promotions rate for staff sergeant since 1996, according to the Air Force Personnel Center.

The transition from the rank of senior airman to staff sergeant is a significant milestone that marks the entry into the noncommissioned officer tier. This transition comes with increased responsibilities and opportunities to influence and shape the Air Force’s mission.

During the release party, Col. Denny Davies, 19th Airlift Wing and installation commander, gave closing remarks addressing the selectees.

“There’s a reason you all made the staff sergeant select list,” said Davies. “You’re capable, you’re ready to go out and project Tac Air anywhere, and you’re ready to win.”

The full 23E5 promotion list can be viewed on the Air Force Personnel Center public website. Airmen can access their score notices on the virtual Military Personnel Flight via the AFPC Secure page.
