Colonel John Schutte is the Commander, 19th Airlift Wing, Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas.  As the installation commander, Colonel Schutte leads the "Home of Herk Nation."  He works in concert with the 314th Airlift Wing (AETC), 189th Airlift Wing (ANG), 913th Airlift Group (AFRC), and 29th Weapons Squadron (ACC) in all aspects of C-130 training.  As commander, Colonel Schutte is responsible for organizing, training, and equipping the personnel who operate, maintain, and sustain more than 62 C-130 aircraft.  The wing provides combat-ready forces to meet combatant commanders' requirements globally.  He ensures support for combat, contingency, and humanitarian requirements around the world while providing for the health and welfare of more than 9,000 personnel and families at Little Rock AFB.

Colonel Schutte received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps after graduating from the University of Virginia. His assignments include operational and staff tours at United States Air Forces in Europe, the Pentagon, Pacific Air Forces, and U.S. Air Forces Central Command.  Operationally, he has participated in Operations JOINT FORGE, JOINT GUARDIAN, ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, TOMODACHI, and the Pan Sahel Initiative.  Colonel Schutte previously commanded the 386th EOSS in Southwest Asia.  While in command, he re-established a military-to-military relationship with the Iraq Air Force and helped lead the wing to its first-ever participation in a multinational exercise.  He has also served as a strategist in the Chief of Staff of the Air Force’s Strategic Studies Group (SSG), providing the Chief with advice and information on the strategic environment and other topics of interest to support him in his role as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.  Prior to his current assignment, Colonel Schutte was Vice Commander, 314th Airlift Wing, Little Rock AFB, Arkansas, which trains C-130 aircrew members from across the Department of Defense and 47 partner nations.  He is currently a Ph.D. Candidate at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
