Shirley McDaniel pins a colonel eagle insignia on newly promoted Col. Ron McDaniel's service dress jacket May 2 at a 2 p.m. Little Rock Air Force Base ceremony. The colonel is the first African-American in the Arkansas Air National Guard's 189th Airlift Wing to be promoted to the rank of colonel, and he's the second African-American in the state to have worn colonel's eagles. The first was Col. James Abernathy, who is retired. (Photo by Master Sgt. Dianna Seerey)
