Running the runway Published June 12, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Harry Brexel 19th Airlift Wing Public Affairs LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, Ark. -- The 19th Operations Support Squadron airfield management facility is responsible for the busiest single runway in the Air Force. Kerry Miller, 19th OSS airfield manager, and his team of 11, manage the airfield like a facility. The group inspects runways, taxiways, parking aprons, signs and lighting. Along with inspections, the team operates 24 hours a day to respond to in-flight emergencies and reports of wildlife and foreign object debris on the runway. The team coordinates airfield support with other Team Little Rock members such as the 19th Civil Engineer Squadron, maintenance squadrons, the command post and fire department. For their work, the 19th OSS airfield operations flight was recognized as Air Mobility Command's Airfield Management facility of the Year for 2013.
