The members of a Site Activation Task Force, known as a SATAF, concluded their week-long planning sessions with base officials at an out-brief session Friday that explained some Base Realignment and Closure recommendations.
The men and women from Headquarters Air Force, Air Education and Training Command and Air Mobility Command were here planning the base's implementation of the BRAC decisions, which must be completed fully by Sept. 15, 2011.
Time line decisions aren't completely final, according to Kaye Pruit, AMC BRAC Team chief.
She also stated the teams would most likely return here for another round of discussions; however no date has been set.
Currently, BRAC plans are for an airlift squadron at Pope Air Force Base, N.C., to transfer here in late 2007.
A second AMC Airlift Squadron will stand up at Little Rock AFB in 2008. The 463rd Airlift Group will become an operational airlift wing and add 24 C-130s. Little Rock Air Force Base will see an increase of about 300-400 Airmen.
One of the new AMC squadrons will be a C-130J unit with 16 aircraft. One item still left open in the BRAC determinations is the amount of aircraft needed to conduct the AETC C-130 training mission here.
The amount of aircraft could increase, however final decisions haven't been made.
"One thing we'll do is to ensure 'The Rock' is a world-class facility to train and execute the warfighting mission," said Brig. Gen. Robert McMahon, AMC director of Plans and Programs. "I'd like to thank all of those at Little Rock who helped make this a superb planning event."
Under BRAC, Little Rock AFB will increase the amount of AMC aircraft to 52 C-130s and four flying squadrons and decrease AETC aircraft to 24 with two flying squadrons. More than $47 million will go to BRAC construction on the base.
"We are all working to make sure Little Rock, and the Air Force, are postured for success five years from now," said Brig. Gen. Kip Self, 314th Airlift Wing commander.
