STUDENT SUMMER HIRE PROGRAM NOW UNDER WAY Published April 1, 2011 19th Airlift Wing Public Affairs Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark. -- The Little Rock Air Force Base civilian personnel office is now accepting applications for summer-hire positions. Students, ages 16 and up, may apply for openings as GS-01 clerks ($9.76 per hour); GS-02 and GS-03 Lifeguards ($10.94 and $11.95 per hour respectively), GS-04 lead lifeguards ($13.41 per hour); and WG-01 laborers ($10.07 per hour). The jobs are full-time, 40 hours per week. According to base civilian personnel officials, the summer-hire program put more than $250,000 into the pockets of student workers from June - August 2010. "I think it's a great opportunity [for students]; it allows them to gain marketable skills and earn some money at the same time," said Lisa Bemrich, 19th Force Support Squadron human resource specialist. "For many students, this is their first job, so in addition to the marketable skills they gain working for us, they also learn about filling out applications properly while applying for these positions. "Also for those students we hire who are not familiar with the Air Force, it gives them insight into the military structure and our way of life on a military installation," she said. "We always look forward to showcasing Little Rock AFB, and our office has received great feedback from students as they are leaving their summer jobs about the impact the job had on them." Applications received by April 15 will receive first hiring consideration, according to base civilian personnel officials. All applications must be received by June 3. Applicants must submit a completed application package consisting of: Optional Form 612 and Optional Form 306 (both of which are available at www.opm.gov/forms/html/of.asp); college transcripts or letter on official school letterhead from a counselor/registrar; copy of their birth certificate; copy of a non-expired student photo ID card from their school or valid driver's license; and the 2011 Summer Hire checklist. The checklist is available at the base civilian personnel office. Applicants can call 987-3212 to have the application sent to them via e-mail. Lifeguard applicants must also include a copy of current, nationally recognized lifeguard certification, first-aid certification and CPR certification to include adults, children and infants.
