The riding stables are a valuable benefit at Little Rock Air Force Base. The stables are capable of boarding 45 horses and currently there are 30 or more horses. Active-duty, Guard, Reserve and retirees are all able to take advantage of this program. Members must take care of their horses by keeping up with feeding and watering. They are also responsible for keeping their stall clean. When a new horse comes in, it must be quarantined for a week in a holding pen, isolated from the other horses. This ensures the spread of disease or illnesses will not be passed to other horses. Owners must also have up-to-date shot records. There are three pastures where the horses can roam and graze. To board a horse or horses, call Outdoor Recreation at (501) 987-3365. The average stall for one horse is $65 a month.
