As the Department of Energy's national Energy Action Month campaign comes to an end, the lessons learned can continue to bring benefits throughout the year. Energy Action Month included local awareness initiatives and activities at Little Rock Air Force Base.

Energy Action Month provides an opportunity for Airmen and families to learn more about the importance of energy and its use in the Air Force's mission. Knowing how to use energy more efficiently gives Airmen an assured energy advantage in air, space and cyberspace.

Here are multiple ways for Airmen to conserve energy at home, work and during their commute.

At home:
· Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent lights. CFLs can save three-quarters of the electricity used by incandescent bulbs.
· Turn off lights in unoccupied rooms or consider installing timers, photo cells, or occupancy sensors to reduce the amount of time your lights are on.
· Clean or replace filters in your furnace, air conditioner, and heat pump regularly.

At work:
· Unplug equipment that drains energy when not in use (cell phone chargers, fans, coffeemakers, etc.)
· Turn off your computer and monitors at the end of the work day, if possible. If you leave your desk for an extended period of time, turn off your monitor.
· Use natural lighting or day lighting. When feasible, turn off lights near windows.

When commuting:
· Carpool, bike, walk or use mass transit when possible.
· Keep your tires inflated to the proper pressure. This can improve your gas mileage by 3.3 percent.
· Avoid high speeds and aggressive driving.
