LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, Ark. -- Airman and Family Readiness Center team at Little Rock Air Force Base offers a wide range of classes to help Airmen and families become more knowledgeable about day-to-day problems and future obstacles.
Active-duty service members, reservists, guardsmen, retirees, Department of Defense civilians, and their families qualify to take classes for free.
“There are at least a dozen core programs offered at the Airmen and Family Readiness Center,” said Wayne Ojala, 19th Force Support Squadron community readiness consultant. “They deal with things such as finances, transitioning between different points in a military members’ career and finding employment opportunities.”
The AFRC classes teach about obstacles encountered in life and foster self-sufficiency which sustains mission capabilities.
“One of the classes that I think is the most helpful is the Thrift Savings Plan class,” said Richard Tomaskovic, 19th FSS community readiness consultant. “It’s such a huge benefit for the military because it’s a way to save money for retirement and for your future.”
The classes are available during the weekdays and are typically taught in hourly segments. Many of the classes are a part of the Leadership Pathways program, which is designed to support the base using the Comprehensive Airman Fitness methodology.
“One of the ways the classes help the base is the general knowledge they give, but the main thing is that you can come to us one-on-one for anything that we teach,” Tomaskovic said. “In total we currently have over 300 years of active-duty military experience on this team that we want to use to help members on base.”
