Aviation history
After World War II, the Walnut Ridge Airport was one of several bases used to melt down airplanes for their precious metals. Museum officials estimate that between 10,000 and 11,000 planes were disposed of at Walnut Ridge alone, some leaving directly from production lines to the airport. (Courtesy photo)
