Combat Airlifter of the Week: Staff Sgt. Nathan Smith

Staff Sgt. Nathan Smith, 61st Airlift Squadron, squadron aviation resource management assistant non-commissioned officer in-charge, ensured the flight safety of more than 450 aircrew members throughout his three-year tour at Little Rock Air Force Base. Smith leads the squadron aviation resource management shop and maintains accountability of aircrew flying and ground training records as well as safeguards $42,000 in classified equipment. He deployed for four months in supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and tracked 1,700 sorties, 14,000 passengers, 8,500 tons of cargo and was named the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing Warrior of the Month. Smith also earned the Airman Leadership School Class 15-4's John Levitow Award. He was selected to represent the 19th Airlift Wing at the Phoenix Stripe leadership conference. Smith volunteered as his unit's suicide prevention instructor and provided Airmen with information to better look after their fellow wingmen.
