A sea of hot pink hair, t-shirts and signs flowed through the streets of downtown Little Rock Oct. 4, 2014, with supporters of the 21st Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Optimism and confidence shone from the faces of participants and appreciation flowed from the breast cancer survivors. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer, and is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer.

Since its founding, the Arkansas Affiliate has held 18 Komen Race for the Cures-Little Rock, welcoming women, men and children.

Team Little Rock members rallied to show their support by joining forces and walking or running the 5k. All money raised will remain in Arkansas for breast health research, diagnostics, screening and treatment.

According to the American Cancer Society, there have been approximately 232,500 new cases of invasive breast cancer found in 2014 and approximately 40,000 deaths from breast cancer.
