It's their war, our world. The word is out. "Transformers" the movie will be hitting the big screen in the summer of 2007.
This projected summer blockbuster, directed by Michael Bay, produced by Steven Spielberg, and starring a list of familiar faces such as Josh Duhamel from "Las Vegas," Michael Clarke Duncan from "The Green Mile," and Bernie Mac from "The Bernie Mac Show," is causing quite a buzz around "The Rock."
Transformers the movie will feature an array of Air Force aircraft and airmen, among them a C-130J from the 48th Airlift Squadron here, and Capt. Bryan Smith, a 48th AS pilot.
The C-130J was used in the movie in particular because "They wanted to show some of the new aircraft the Air Force is putting on the flight line," said Captain Smith. "They wanted to show how much we're advancing."
The base's newest aircraft took part in a simulated ramp setup, and will be in the background as the Air Force base in the movie is attacked by Decepticons. "Transformers" is modeled after the popular 1980's toys and television show.
These "robots in disguise" begin as cars and planes that morph into robots to battle each other for control of the earth. In the upcoming movie, Autobots and Decepticons bring their battle to earth, and the humans are caught in the midst of the war for planetary domination. Airmen who escorted the aircraft to Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., for the filming of the movie were also recruited as extras for the movie.
Captain Smith is excited to say that he has "officially worked for Hollywood," as an extra in the movie, and played a variety of roles from an A-10 pilot to a helicopter crewmember. On the set the captain says the crew and actors were friendly towards the military members on the set, and several thanked him and his crew for their service.
Even Michael Bay, the busy director, took time to talk to the crew who represented Little Rock Air Force Base. Captain Smith says Mr. Bay was impressed with the C-130J's tail that proudly displays "The Rock," which was also the title of one of Bay's movies.
The captain was not only happy to make his acting debut, but also to represent the Air Force in such a big way."
Any chance I get to show what I do and how the Air Force operates is great. This is going to shed great light on the Air Force," Captain Smith said.
