Three weeks after families moved into their new homes in base housing, Airmen and their families are "more than satisfied" with their dwellings.

"The homes are so much bigger than they were before," said Tech. Sgt. Cassandra Beaver, who moved in with her husband, Staff Sgt. Lance Beaver, their two children, Michael, 11, and Kyla, 2, and their mother, Colleen Begaye. "Many rooms in the house are more than double their original size. Not to mention the amenities."

The new homes have all new Energy Star-compliant appliances, digital thermostats, multiple storage closets and garages with automatic door openers.

Siding and brick outline the homes, giving a different feel than the older homes, said Staff Sgt. Mark Brown, who moved into a new home with his wife, Jennifer, and their three children, Dominic, 10, Christian, 7, and Carson, 1.

"Looking at the home from the outside makes you think you live in a new housing subdivision," said Sergeant Brown. "The landscaping, bushes and outside of the home make you think you live in an outside community."

"Let's not forget those horrible sliding door on the closets are gone," said Mrs. Brown. "And the carpet. We didn't have any carpet in our old home at all and now it's in almost every room. The ceiling fans are nice too."

But, "no matter how you put it, the homes are just bigger and better," she said.

"I finally have enough space in my kitchen to turn around," said Mrs. Brown. "It felt like I was cooking in an apartment in the old house. Now I can't even fill all the cabinet space."

The next batch of homes are expected to open around March or April 2007.
