Free tax assistance available

The 2009 income tax season has officially begun. To assist members of the Little Rock Air Force Base community during this often stressful time, the base legal office and the Internal Revenue Service are proud to announce the Little Rock AFB Tax Center is now open.

The Little Rock AFB Tax Center is certified under the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program administered by the IRS. The tax center is staffed by volunteers from the base who have completed more than 40 hours of IRS-approved income tax training and passed four separate tax exams.

The tax center provides military members, dependents and retirees access to free tax preparation services. This year, the tax center is located at Bldg. 1255 in room 138 and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In most cases, clients are required to schedule an appointment. However, the tax center offers walk-in hours on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for junior officers, NCOs and Airmen requiring basic income tax returns and on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for deploying personnel. Service will be on a first-come first-served basis.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, call the tax center office at 987-1040.
