Tired of hearing there is nothing to do at Little Rock Air Force Base? Take the complainers to a 19th Force Support Squadron Outdoor Recreation adventure. Airmen can enjoy free outdoor activities such as rock climbing, kayaking, even skydiving and more. Outdoor Rec rents equipment to explore beauty of the Natural State. Sometimes the adventure may be taming the jungle of an unkept lawn; they have tools for that as well.

The flight is responsible for a number of different areas, including the base horse stables, the "lemon lot" resale area and base storage facilities to name a few. Military ID cardholders can use the services offered by Outdoor Rec.

"Outdoor Rec is a bunch of stuff," said Brittany Peters, 19th Force Support Squadron Outdoor Adventure director. "We have equipment rentals, the outdoor adventure program, family camping, RV storage, resale lots, and the stables."

Do-it-yourself

One of the most popular services offered by Outdoor Rec is their equipment rental services where people can rent almost anything they may need to tackle the great outdoors. They have equipment for lawn and garden, camping, boating, and sports as well as tools to keep up one's home.

"We are open six days a week," said Peters. "People can come and rent out equipment; we have everything from lawn care to camping, outdoor stuff, we have random stuff such as dunk tanks, bounce castles, trailers, campers, and a lot more. If you're ever in need of anything, call us, because there is a good chance we have it."

Rentals are easy, Peters said, either call or drop by Outdoor Rec. For more popular items, she recommends calling ahead of time to reserve them. To reserve an item one needs to show their military ID, fill out paper work, and pay the one day rate on the item. Along with that, one may reserve an item up to 30 days ahead of time.

Great Adventures

Another service offered by Outdoor Rec is the Outdoor Adventure program which gets airman off base to enjoy and explore Arkansas.

"We do everything from rock climbing, to hikes, kayaking, high ropes courses and horseback riding," said Peters. "We do a night out on the town, basically anything to get people off base and enjoying the state of Arkansas."

Finding out what adventures are available is just a phone call away. Airmen are priority for the free Outdoor Adventure program, but dependents can get on a waiting list so if there is room they can go as well. To help out the Outdoor Adventure program they request cancelation notification so someone on the waiting list can enjoy the adventure.
Outdoor Rec is currently located in building 656, right behind the Auto Skills Center. They are in the process of moving into building 650 located on Fifth St.
