In order to avoid corrosion, C-130s have to be scrubbed down and washed at least every 180 days. They also must be cleaned before every isochronal inspection. Dirt, grease, grime, exhaust carbon and hydraulic oils can hide cracks or other faults with an aircraft. The aircraft are hand-washed with scrubbers in conjunction with aircraft equipment cleaner that is biodegradable and non-toxic. The wash rack is used by the 19th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, the 314th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, as well as the 22nd Air Force Detachment 1 and 189th Airlift Wing.
