The Fourth of July is usually associated with firework displays. During this time it is crucial that Airmen and their families stay safe as well as understand and abide by base and community regulations.

Remember, fireworks or any type of explosive devices is prohibited on base. This includes the construction, handling, sale, possession, storage, and/or use of fireworks, including sparklers. The violation of any of the aforementioned regulations is punishable under Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

If you are within a municipality that allows the sale and use of fireworks within city limits, applying these guidelines correctly will keep everyone safe during the holiday weekend.

· Only purchase fireworks from a reliable seller.

· Follow state and local laws while purchasing and using fireworks.

· Have an adult present to supervise all firework activities.

· Follow all warnings and instructions on the label--NEVER light a firework in your hand.

· Have a fire extinguisher or water nearby for emergencies.

· Shoot fireworks only in open areas away from people, buildings, vehicles, shrubs, vegetation and flammable material.

· Do not drink alcohol when supervising or lighting fireworks.

· Do not smoke around fireworks.

· Do not experiment with fireworks or try to make your own.

· Douse malfunctioning or dud fireworks with water--Do not try to re-light or handle them!
Be aware of any burn bans in the area. An easy way to check on any current burn bans in Arkansas is by going to: http://forestry.arkansas.gov.

Be safe and have a wonderful Independence Day. Drink responsibly, and use common sense. Be a good wingman and look out for your fellow Airmen and yourself.
