Lt. Gen. Carlton D. Everhart II, 18th Air Force commander, visited Little Rock Air Force Base Sept. 4-5 for this first time since taking command of 18th AF. Everhart's tour included engaging with Airmen to address their concerns as well as bring awareness to several of his command priorities. Everhart visited multiple Team Little Rock squadrons to promote unit cohesion and encourage innovation. At the end of his visit Everhart hosted an All Call with TLR Airmen and leaders and used that time to express his appreciation for their hard work: "I just want to thank you for everything you do every single day," said Everhart. "It's easy to get things done when everything is calm, but when things are tough, that's when you see true leadership come about." During the All Call, a Purple Heart was awarded to Master Sgt. Aaron Downing, 19th Security Forces Squadron noncommissioned officer-in-charge of operations. Downing was presented the medal for wounds he received in action July 28, 2007. Everhart's final stop was with TLR deployers, talking and shaking hands with Airmen preparing to depart in support of contingency operations in Southwest Asia. He discussed the importance of keeping in touch with family and practicing risk management during their service overseas.
