The Little Rock Air Force Base intramural flag football season began Oct. 2, and the playoffs are set to begin in late November. Nineteen teams across the installation split into two divisions and have started competing on the gridiron to be the Little Rock AFB intramural flag football champions.

With this season just getting started, every team can forget about the lows of last year and start with a clean slate. But the 314th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron hopes to repeat the success that they had last year after going 14 and zero last season while capping it off with a dominating performance over the 19th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron in the championship game.

"We hope to be able to duplicate the success of last season," said Senior Airman Ned McCaster, 314th AMXS head coach. "Unfortunately we weren't able to get a lot of the same guys back this year, but after our first game we still feel good about our odds to repeat."

Teams only have nine games to get the chemistry right and create the winning formula before the playoffs begin.

The intramural sports program is an Air Force-wide program governed by Air Force Instruction 34-266, which gives service members the opportunity to interact and engage with supervisors, leadership and other personnel on base.

"I decided to give flag football a try so I could come out and meet new people in my unit," said McCaster. "It also gives me a fun way to stay in shape."

Flag football, along with other intramural sports, is hosted by the 19th Force Support Squadron. The program is an after work activity created to promote participation, sportsmanship, physical conditioning and camaraderie.
Flag football has one of the biggest turnouts of all intramurals this year, with 19 teams ready to show what they are made of this season.
