Early season predictions came to fruition as the 314th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron took the cake for the second year straight.

"We hope to be able to duplicate the success of last season," said Senior Airman Ned McCaster 314th AMXS head coach, during a preseason interview.

"Our pregame mentality is always the same. You want to, and need to, as a teamĀ  feel like you are better than the team you are playing, but always respect them," said McCaster.

The one team McCaster said they didn't respect at the start of the season was the 19th Maintenance Squadron #3. This didn't turn out well for the 314th AMXS.

"We got smashed by them," said McCaster. "Because, at that time they were the better team."

McCaster said, there is always a little trash talk going, but it is only because a lot of players from the playoff teams know each other and play together on the weekends.

No team enters the gridiron with hopes to lose. The mindset of the 314th AMXS from the beginning of the season was to repeat their victory from last year. However, though confident to win, the coach said he wanted his team to also have fun and stay in shape while playing the game they love.

"For the last two years, we have had a constant quote that you will hear us say a lot - defense wins championships," said McCaster. "We don't always go out and score a lot of points, but we pride ourselves on being able to stop other teams from scoring."

The 314th AMXS finished the season 16-2.

"We won it last year so for this year, since we had so many people return, we believed we could repeat," said McCaster.

And repeat they did.

Flag football, along with other intramural sports, is hosted by the 19th Force Support Squadron. The program is an opportunity for Airmen to participate in friendly competition while creating camaraderie.
