Monday night, during an intramural basketball game, the (0-0) 913th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron took on the (0-0) 314th Maintenance Squadron at Little Rock Air Force Base. The maintainers from the 314th were able to ratchet it down and ward off the late rally of the 913th and walk away with the win.

Prior to tipoff, both teams looked confident and poised during warm ups. The spectators were having trouble predicting a clear cut winner as the teams rallied around the ref for tipoff. However, that confidence would quickly deteriorate as the game picked up.

After the 314th AMXS gained possession of the tipoff, they rushed down the court heaving up the first look they had. It would be an unsuccessful attempt, as would the next five of the game.  Both teams would be scoreless the first three-and-a-half minutes, until Bryan Coleman, a guard for the 314th, broke the drought with a 3-pointer from downtown.

The motto of the 314th Airmen seemed to be, "you live by the three, and you die by the three."

With 3:37 left on the board in the first half, the score was 15-8, 314th AMXS. The only shots made by the 314th thus far were 3-pointers. Shooting less than 50 percent from the three point line and a staggering zero percent from inside the arch, it wasn't clear how they even had the lead, but they weren't complaining.

At the half, the scoreboard had barely changed in the last three minutes; 19-8: 314th AMXS.

Coming out of the half, the 913th seemed to have a little more pep in their step, ripping down rebounds and having more and more success in the paint, just as the 314th seemed to be letting off the gas.

Winning the rebound game, the 913th used their second and third chances to slowly but surely close in on their opponent.  Eventually the maintainers of the 913th would finally put a run together, coming within four points of the lead.

After making several mental errors, followed by frequent turnovers and unnecessary shots, a timeout was called by the 314th, giving them a chance to collect their thoughts and settle down.

Coming out of the 30-second timeout the score was 26-22, 314th AMXS.

Both teams seemed to revert to their original play from the first half, with the 314th picking up where they left off, launching three's, but with much more success.

Slowly the 314th started to separate themselves, but it was the late alley-oop from Coleman to Douglas Mathews, of the 314th, that would eventually take the wind out of the 913th's sails.

The final score of this low-scoring, high-intensity game was 37-24, 314th AMXS.
