An Arkansas state employee with the 189th Civil Engineering Squadron earned the State Military Department's Activity Employee of the Year award for fiscal year 2007.

Clay Hamilton, a general maintenance repairman and a drill-status Guardsman in the unit, earned the award based on his duty performance, customer service, contribution to the National Guard and his community involvement.

Mr. Hamilton is a certified heating, ventilation and air conditioning technician, and he also knows his way around electrical systems. He can also handle plumbing and structural projects, too.

"Our high visibility projects are assigned to Mr. Hamilton to manage because we know he will accomplish them with superior results," Chief Master Sgt. Mike Smith, the unit's facility manager wrote in the nomination package.

Besides completing repairs, his advice is sought on technical issues to assist the 189th Airlift Wing's base engineer in renovations across the Guard's campus on Little Rock Air Force Base.

Mr. Hamilton's efforts have resulted in the wing being known in Air National Guard circles as having some of the best facilities in the nation, the package stated.

Off duty, Mr. Hamilton is involved in activities at his daughter's school, and he's an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
