Save a Life tour comes to the Rock

People are the Air Force's most important asset; that's why the Air Force Safety Center has contracted Kramer International to present installations across the U.S. with the "Save a Life Tour."

The tour is a high-impact alcohol awareness program that uses a video presentation, drunk driving simulators, displays, and personal experience to drive their message home: Driving under the influence is no accident, it's a choice.

Personnel will have an opportunity to attend one of two presentations, the first one at 8 a.m. on Oct. 5 and the second one at 8 a.m. on Oct. 6 at Bldg. 233. The presentations kick off with a video that uses graphic footage from actual drunk driving crash scenes. The video is followed by dynamic guest speakers, Andrew Tipton and Jeremiah Newsom, whose personal experiences enable them to provide participants with a real-life account of the impact that drinking and driving has on other people's lives. Immediately following the presentations, participants will be scheduled in groups for an opportunity to either operate the drunk driving simulators or watch others drive on big screen televisions. These multi-million dollar simulators allow participants a first hand experience of the effects drinking has on response skills while operating a vehicle.

According to Joe Wooding, the 19th Airlift Wing Safety Office's traffic safety manager, keeping intoxicated Airmen off the roads is the primary goal of the event.

"It's a tool to help reduce the number of drinking and driving incidents. There will be a simulator there to help people experience the effects of drinking and driving. Hopefully this tour will help them think twice the next time they're thinking about drinking and driving."

The "Save a Life Tour" target audience is people 26 and under; however, all ages are encouraged to attend. The 19th Airlift Wing Ground Safety Office is working with installation commanders and first sergeants to ensure maximum participation by allocating each group a specified number of seats. Little Rock AFB has been afforded an awesome opportunity to educate its members on the dangers of driving under the influence and make it easier for its members to "do the right thing."
