Hickam pays tribute to Airmen's storied legacy
HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii -- Col. Giovanni Tuck, 15th Airlift Wing commander, salutes the flag presented to Helen Burnett, the widow of Col. (Ret.) Vane Ward Burnett, during the 68th Remembrance Ceremony Dec. 7. The remembrance ceremony marked the anniversary of the Dec. 7, 1941, attacks on Pearl Harbor Navy Fleet and the Army Air Corps fields of Hickam, Wheeler and Bellows. Survivors and their families from the infamous day were on hand to pay tribute to their lost brothers and sisters in arms. Wreaths and tokens of honor were laid at the base of the memorial at Atterbury Circle. Colonel Burnett, who passed away two weeks prior to the ceremony, watched as Japanese planes attacked Pearl Harbor and Hickam Field. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Mike Meares)
