Little Rock facilities to get facelift Published Sept. 15, 2011 By Cassandra Webb 19th Force Support Squadron LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, Ark. -- People who have visited Hangar 1080 lately might have noticed it looks slightly different than it used to. Where is the Hank Aaron jersey? What happened to all the Razorback's banners? However, customers need not be frightened, they haven't been stolen or replaced. In fact, their absence is just the first step of the Hangar's renovation. And the Hangar's not alone. The Deer Run Golf Course and Strike Zone Bowling Center are also saying goodbye to the old and hello to the new. Coming this fall, Hangar 1080, Deer Run and the Strike Zone will all be revamped into facilities that are a little more modern and suitable for base patrons. The Hangar is making the shift from all things sports to all things aviation. The facelift will initially involve replacing the checkerboard floor, applying fresh paint to the walls and swapping out damaged ceiling tiles for new ones. The vision for the décor includes C-130 memorabilia and general pieces of Air Force nostalgia. The new and improved Hangar 1080 will be ready to host the base's Air Force Ball on Oct. 29. In the meantime, people can still enjoy live music every fourth Friday night of the month. Matt Stell and the Crashers will return to the Hangar to perform at the Air Force Birthday Bash Celebration on Sept. 23, beginning at 6 p.m. Additionally, the Hangar will remain open for Family Night every third Thursday of the month, 5 p.m.--8 p.m., and will also be open during regular dinner hours, as well as offering its lunch buffet Monday - Friday, 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The Hangar 1080 staff requests that all patrons use the side door entrance during the renovation period. In addition to the revamped Hangar 1080, there are also new and exciting restaurants in the works at the Strike Zone and Deer Run. Team Little Rock members may recall, the snack bar at Deer Run was closed a couple years ago. It reopens this fall, inspired by a common golfing term. It will be known as Fairways at Deer Run. The changes to the facility include a new counter and bar, all new and updated kitchen equipment and new paint, carpet and window treatments. Laminate hardwood floors will also be installed to add warmth and texture to the dining area. Since the golf clubhouse is defined by its casual, warm and inviting atmosphere, the menu will be breakfast and deli simple. Specific menu options include a continental breakfast, breakfast burritos, soups, gourmet salads, sandwiches, wraps and wings. Quick service equipment will offer "grab and go" salads and sandwiches for the hurried golfer. Lounge, café, and bar-style seating will allow for a variety of seating options for guests to enjoy a perfect snack after a long day on the course or a hot breakfast to start their day. The Strike Zone will see new re-facing of the front counters, and equipment will be reconfigured on and behind the counters to create a true retail restaurant look and feel. Subsequently, the bowling center's retail restaurant will be known as Ten Pin and will host new drop pendent lights over the counter, as well as new paint and new flooring. Ten Pin will serve those on the go, as well as offer communal tables mixed with more intimate seating for sharing a meal with family or friends. Burgers, steak fries, hot dogs, chicken tenders, wings and onion rings are just a few of the items that will be featured on Ten Pin's flat screen menus. As with all construction projects, patrons are asked to pardon the appearance of the facilities during renovations. Any new hours and temporary closings will be posted as soon as possible.
