Saves Week, Radio Disney come to TLR Published Feb. 21, 2013 By Staff Sgt. Jacob Barreiro 19th Airlift Wing Public Affairs LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, Ark. -- Military Saves Week is Feb. 25 - March 1. Team Little Rock is scheduled to host an event every day, Monday - Friday of the week, to promote good fiscal responsibility and saving currency, including hosting an event with Radio Disney. MSW is traditionally held the last week of February, Sunday - Sunday. The "week" is intended to bring awareness to the numerous avenues available to military service members for saving money, as well as encourage them to be aggressive in saving. "The primary reason for Military Saves Week is to encourage military members to automatically begin saving in their life," said Ed Summers, 19th Force Support Squadron community readiness consultant. The activities are geared toward financial education and encouraging people to reduce debt. The events for MSW are: - Monday: Col. Thomas Crimmins, 19th Airlift Wing vice commander, opening remarks and pledge signing, 10:30 a.m. - 12: 30 p.m. at the Thomas Community Activities Center. There will be a free lunch provided at the ceremony. - Tuesday: Hot dog cook-out provided by base First Sergeants Group, with free gifts available, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Airman Family Readiness Center. - Wednesday: "Cracker Barrel" financial sessions, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the TCAC. There will be a free lunch provided at the event. - Thursday: Radio Disney performance, first time ever on base, 5 - 7 p.m. at the TCAC. There will be a live performance by the crew of Radio Disney, singing, dancing and a bounce castle. Free pizza will be provided at the event. - Friday: Invest quest 5K fun run followed by the closing remarks, 7 - 9 a.m. at the Warfit Track. The top three teams will win medals. Team Little Rock has been supporting MSW since 2007 with very good turnouts, said Summers. He hopes people will continue to attend the events held on base, and continue to pursue savings. "This week is important because emergency savings are critical," he said. "It helps build wealth and avoid debt." And that's what MSW is all about.
