Airmen participate in a base-wide exercise starting with the pre-deployment function line Feb. 21, 2018, at Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark.

Throughout the week 10 chalks of approximately 500 Airmen will process through the PDF line, where personnel verify the Airmen have all their medical records accounted for, process them as though they will deploy and overall, make sure they’re mission ready.

“Each individual going through the PDF line is an essential key to the mission,” said Staff Sgt. Jordan Belen, the PDF line NCO in charge of personnel system management and adverse actions. “We verify they finished all their training and received their security clearance. Anything else they need, we make sure they have it.”

Belen briefs the chalks initially when they arrive and ensures the line runs smoothly as the chalk processes through. He is fond of his job and hopes to eventually deploy seeing as this has been his favorite job opportunity so far in the Air Force.

“It’s really exciting to be part of a deployment,” Belen said. “Sending people out on taskings makes me feel like I am part of the mission.”
