Walnut Ridge HAZMAT exercise
Lt. Col. Stanley Evans, commander of the 61st Civil Support Team, (right) discusses entry procedures and containment options for a hazardous chemical with Walnut Ridge Fire Chief Alan Haskins, incident commander during an exercise at the Walnut Ridge Airport on Tuesday, September 1, 2009. The exercise involved a scenario where a C-130 from the Arkansas Air National Guard was carrying a hazardous chemical which overturned during a hard landing at the airport. The spill resulted in a compartment fire aboard the aircraft and the vapors from the chemical overcame the crew. The aircraft and crew supporting the exercise for the local HAZMAT response drill came from the 189th Airlift Wing of the Arkansas Air National Guard located at Little Rock Air Force Base.
