A noncommissioned officer from the 189th Communications Flight was selected as one of the 2007 Air National Guard Air Force Communications and Information Awards winners.

Staff Sgt. Earnest K. Donnell, a voice network systems craftsman, was also nominated as the top noncommissioned officer in the field of communications-electronic systems by the National Guard Bureau to the Air Force-level competition.

Sergeant Donnell created a continuity binder for a high-tech telephone switch, which improved training material while streamlining the troubleshooting process.

He also installed more than 120 local area network drops, which was instrumental in converting the wing to 100 percent networked copier access. He closed 66 work orders for additional telephone drops and extension changes.

He installed four security cameras in classified briefing areas to ensure compliance with a new Air Force instruction.

Sergeant Donnell completed his career development course and scored a 100 percent on the end-of-course test. He is the first member of the 189th Airlift Wing to achieve this feat.

He is a forward-thinker who proactively ensures maximum man-hour efficiency, his commander wrote in his nomination package, by rewiring the communications closet to allow a visiting engineering and installation team clear and unobstructed access to all switches, ports and wiring.
