Effective immediately, the University Center staff at Little Rock Air Force Base will incorporate a briefing focusing on operational security into mandated tuition assistance briefings about degree guidelines.

The intention is to educate students on the requirement to clear all academic papers through the 19th Airlift Wing Public Affairs pertaining to an Air Force mission in order to protect against inadvertent release or distribution of sensitive documents.

All six universities housed within the University Center have been directed to brief students and staff with the same information.

According to Air Force Instruction 35-102, the public affairs organization, which has security and policy review authority, will clear unclassified information of local or regional interest. This includes speeches, presentations, papers, multimedia and visual information material and information proposed for release to a publicly accessible web site with the exception of Air Force publications.

“For the most part the college experience will stay the same,” said Patrick Loggins, 19th Force Support Squadron education specialist. “I believe that most of the students know to adhere to current OPSEC policies, however with this new emphasis we will bring awareness to the young Airmen too.”

Public Affairs officers who suspect unauthorized disclosures of classified and controlled unclassified information will report the occurrence to the 19th AW Information Protection Office in accordance with AFI 16-1404, Air Force Information Security Program.
