The 314th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron was victorious in the intramural flag football championship game, defeating the 19th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron 41-21 Sept. 18, 2013, at Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark.

The 314th was a heavy favorite. They finished the season sporting an unblemished 12-0 record. Quarterbacking the onslaught and orchestrating the flag football air raid was Drew McKnight.

"We have a lot of good players, and it's been fun," said McKnight. "We had good team chemistry, and when everyone plays together, we're able to win. It's a heck of a feeling."

The game was a back and forth battle throughout the first half, with the teams exchanging scores and possessions until halftime. During the second half the 314th ramped up its defensive efforts and forced turnovers that proved to be the difference in the game.

"It was a real good win for everybody," said Ned McCaster III, coach of the 314th. "Everybody played well. We played like brothers out there. We were a little lackadaisical on defense in the first half until we turned up the pressure on defense. We put some pressure on their quarterback, and that is what really turned things around in the second half."

Leading the charge for the 19th AMXS was Trevor Renfrow. After a solid first half of throwing the football, Renfro and his team succumbed to the defensive blitz.

"We had a mediocre record of 8-4, but had been undefeated in the playoffs," said Renfrow. "They played well. We could have done better in a few spots. We are a new team. This is only our second year playing together. I think we'll take them next year."

That experience playing together may have proved to be the difference between the two teams.

"This is our third year now, and the last two we've gotten pretty close," said McCaster. "In the past we've been put out by the 61st Airlift Squadron, this year we finished undefeated. We had a target on our back every game. This season was real good."
