Cold weather and drizzling rain wasn't enough to stop the big yellow Yarnell's ice cream trailer from visiting the base Oct. 12.
Yarnell's gave out free scoops of favorites like Butter Pecan, Homemade Vanilla, and the new Arkansas Razorback's flavor "Woo Pig Chewy."
Husband and wife team, Chuck and Carol Jenkins travel around the state giving out free ice cream samples of the Arkansas-based cold treat. The scooping duo went through several 3-gallon containers on their trip to the base.
Little Rock Airmen and their family members were treated as the ice cream truck made its way around base.
Ice cream was handed out at the 314th Medical Group, Shoppette, Arnold Elementary School, the 314th Maintenance Group, 314th Logistic Readiness Group, the Law Enforcement Desk, Fire Station, Dining Facility, and Military Personnel Flight.
Little Rock Airmen were surprised and grateful for the treats. Jacqueline Schneider, 314th Communications Squadron, tried the "Woo Pig Chewy" and said, "It was absolutely delicious and office staff loved it too! Yarnell's is now on my shopping list because of their support and sweet treat to the men and women on base."
The Yarnell's sampling crew meet many people and see many places traveling Arkansas' border states, but Little Rock AFB impressed them.
"The people were all so nice, courteous and well-mannered," said Mrs. Jenkins. "This is an excellent base, but. I had no idea it was so large."
"It was a great experience (serving ice cream to the base)," said Mr. Jenkins. "It was definitely different than the usual places we give away free samples."
Yarnell's is Arkansas' only ice cream company, located in Searcy, and is a community partner to the base. There is talk of a custom Little Rock Air Force Base ice cream flavor to debut this winter in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the C-130.
