Air show safety and security

  • Published
Welcome to Little Rock AFB, the largest C-130 base in the world! Base personnel are honored to have visitors during the air show. In order to make every open house visit a fun and safe experience, here are some simple security and safety guidelines to follow.

Prohibited Items

In order to keep prohibited items off the flightline, all bags will be briefly inspected as people come through flightline entry points. Additionally, all individuals are subject to search. To minimize delays, remember the following items are not permitted and may be confiscated:

·Backpacks, ice chests and coolers
·Any bags larger than a small purse or fanny pack. This includes duffle bags, briefcases and large camera bags
· All weapons (regardless of permit) including firearms and all other items that security forces deem dangerous. Confiscated items will not be returned.

Please don't bring

· Alcoholic beverages
· Pets (other than service animals)
· Glass containers
· Bicycles, roller skates, roller blades or skateboards
· Illegal drugs

Authorized Items

All authorized items will be inspected prior to entering the flightline. Security officials advise guests to limit the number and size of authorized items they bring to reduce the time required for inspection prior to access into the flightline area. The following items are permitted:

· Cell phones, pagers, handheld portable televisions, radios, scanners and handheld video game devices
· Small fanny packs and purses
· Cameras and camcorders (owners may not load film prior to entering the show area as they may be required to open all compartments at security checkpoints)
· Folding chairs and lawn chairs (chairs in bags are subject to search)
· Umbrellas and sunshades
· Wheelchairs
· Baby bags and strollers, if attending with an infant or small child

Smoking not permitted

· Smoking isn't permitted anywhere on the flightline in the vicinity of aircraft, vendor tents or chalets. There will be designated smoking areas.

Notes

· Unattended bags and packages will be removed from the premises.
· Sun protection, including hats, long sleeved shirts, long pants and sunscreen are recommended.
· Wear comfortable shoes, the flightline is paved and spectators may walk long distances.
· All vendor vehicles are subject to search.
· Please remember to adhere to the prohibited and authorized items lists. Visitors may have to park a long distance from the entry point, and it may be upsetting to have to return to their vehicle to take back prohibited items.

Safety Tips

· Security personnel are there to help, please follow all of their instructions.
· Keep an eye on young children, the crowd is large and it only takes one second for children to get away from their parents. If someone becomes a "lost parent" there will be a designated area where unaccompanied children will be taken.
· If a child is unable to tell security their name in the event they are lost, please ensure their name is marked somewhere on them so they can be identified and safely returned.
· Very few things on the flightline are soft to the touch; most things are made of metal and have lots of edges on them. Visitors should keep their eyes focused in the direction they're walking and be aware of low-hanging aircraft components.
· Medical personnel are on call to render assistance to anyone that requires it. Spectators can notify any security personnel or air show worker if they or a member of their group requires medical attention.
·Set a designated meeting place so in the event the members in a party become separated, they will know where to go to rendezvous.
