On January 13, 2017, beginning at 2:00 p.m., service members from Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark., will honor one of the greatest civil rights activists of all time.
The Little Rock Central High School marching band will walk alongside U.S. Air Force Airmen for a commencement address and commemorative walk honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. There will be a speech by guest speaker (Ret.) U.S. Army Brig. Gen. William J. Johnson, the first African-American general in the history of the Arkansas National Guard. Airmen will also have information booths set up at the Walters Community Support Center to learn more about Martin Luther King Jr., and his historic “I Have a Dream” speech.
The event will kick off at the Herk Hall on base and participants will march to the nearby Walters Community Support Center.
“I’m very excited for this event,” said U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Ashley Pee, 19th Force Support Squadron installation personnel readiness superintendent.
“Despite the negative things going on in the world, I’m proud to be part of an Air Force that strongly supports diversity and brings unity in the community to keep the dream alive.”
