A transportation NCO in the 189th Logistics Readiness Squadron was named the Air National Guard's top transportation senior NCO recently.

Master Sgt. James C. Johnson, a fleet vehicle management analyst, was presented the 2006 award at commander's call on April 15.

He oversees a fleet of 124 vehicles comprised of more than 70 different types. Most importantly, he tracks work orders to establish trends relative to vehicle operations and usage to minimize maintenance cost and processes.

"I'm so blessed and honored to be selected for this award," said Sergeant Johnson. "Every day I personally make it my business to help others understand the big picture of what we do in transportation, and how what we do impacts the organization overall ... simply put, what we do is all about helping our customers."

He manages three separate software programs to manage the 189th Airlift Wing's fleet of vehicles. None of the programs "talk to each other," therefore requiring multiple data inputs - all with zero discrepancies between the systems.

He also led the wing's drive to convert 20 percent of its diesel fleet to biodiesel, exceeding the National Guard Bureau's implementation guidelines.
