History

After 24-years of uninterrupted strategic alert, the 308th Strategic Missile Wing at Little Rock Air Force Base ended its around-the-clock-dedicated service. May 5, 1987, crews ended the 24-hour-vigilant watch and prepared to deactivate the U.S. Air Force’s last Titan II missile silo. Approximately 50 days after ending its alert status, personnel began the deactivation process of Site 373-8, located one mile northwest of Judsonia. Crews started the site decommissioning with the removal of the intercontinental ballistic missile followed by purging the missile complex of underground plumbing, shutting down environmental systems, and dismantling the site. After a quarter century, the Titan II ended its wartime mission of defending America.
