19th Airlift Wing personnel and their guests are invited to the 19th Airlift Wing Black Knight Heritage Dinner from 6 - 10 p.m. Oct. 9 at Hangar 276.

The Black Knight Heritage Dinner will celebrate the first anniversary of the standup of the 19th Airlift Wing, as well as 82 years of Black Knight history.

"We are celebrating a part of our heritage that most people don't know much about," said 1st Lt. Jacob Roney, 61st Airlift Squadron and heritage dinner point of contact. "The Black Knight history dates pre-Air Force."

The medieval evening will include a feast of smoked turkey legs, sliced ham, chicken and sausage, a tournament of jousting, archery, quarterstaff fighting and horse racing and an opportunity for photographs with Rodney, the wing's mascot, and the wing's flag ship aircraft.

Active participation is encouraged to make the evening an event to remember.

"Points will be awarded for each event and the group, or fiefdom as they will be referred to, that wins the tournament, will be presented with a sword that will serve as a traveling trophy each year," said Lieutenant Roney.

The attire will be medieval costume or uniform of the day. Uniforms may be altered and accessorized according to the period.

"This is also everyone's chance to do something different with their uniforms," said Lieutenant Roney. "You can wear your flight suit, BDU or ABU and decorate it to fit the medieval theme."

"The event is a great opportunity for us to bolster our Black Knight heritage," said Tech. Sgt. Melissa Morris, 19th AW ground safety specialist and point of contact for the event. "The evening will be an occasion to indulge in food and spirits and a chance to challenge our foes in competitive medieval sports."

Tickets are on sale now for $15. For more information, contact unit squadron points of contact.
