The 375th Air Mobility Wing hosted 197 High school students Nov. 2 from Illinois, Missouri and Indiana for the Junior ROTC Day as a chance to learn more about the Air Force mission and lifestyle.

“What we want to do is bring them into our fold and introduce them to the Air Force,” said 375th AMW Command Chief Leon Calloway. “We have many members from different [career fields] and they get the opportunity to see how they can impact the Air Force with their missions.”

Participating were members from the wing honor guard, 126th Air Refueling Wing, 375th Civil Engineering Squadron, 375th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, 375th Security Forces Squadron, recruiters and more.

In addition, students witnessed a mass “delayed enlistment” swear in.

Tech. Sgt. David Gibson, 618th Air Operations Center, said, “It’s important to give the future generations of military members a sense of belonging and to offer them clarity during events like this. By witnessing an Oath of Enlistment, they get to witness an official military ceremony, which should have more impact than solely the drills that they participate in at their high school.”

Cadets viewed exhibits and spoke with senior enlisted personnel about various careers the Air Force has to offer. The students listened to a panel of Airmen who spoke about the military lifestyle from officer and enlisted member viewpoints.

“The panel was a great opportunity for these cadets to receive an unbiased opinion from officer and enlisted alike to answer any questions they have and to help paint a clear picture of what the military has to offer,” said Gibson.

Calloway added, “There’s one thing I love most about the Air Force, and that’s the people who come from different backgrounds, different nationalities, and different parts of the world. We come together to get the mission done!”
